How is Tramadol Taken

Tramadol Hcl 50mg may be taken with or without food. Good pain management practice dictates that the dose be individualized according to patient need using the lowest beneficial dose.
Pain patients can be started on 25mg with doses increased by 25mg every 3 days to reach 100mg a day. Thereafter, doses can be increased by 50mg every 3 days to reach 200mg a day. The highest recommended dose of tramadol is 50-100mg (1-2 tablets) every 4-6 hours as needed for pain. The maximum dose is 400mg or 8x 50mg tablets a day.
The maximum daily dose of Tramadol for people over 75 years of age is 300mg.

Tramadol Precautions

Tramadol is not approved by the FDA for use by children younger than 16 years of age. If you are over 75 years of age, you may be more likely to experience side effects from Tramadol. You could not be able to take Tramadol, or should limit dosage or need supervision if you have had kidney disease; liver disease or a history of alcohol and drug dependence. If you think these warnings apply to you be sure to inform your doctor or pharmacist. Do not take Tramadol without first talking to your doctor or pharmacist if you are pregnant or breast-feeding a baby. It is not known whether Tramadol will be harmful to an unborn baby (FDA pregnancy category C) or whether Tramadol passes into breast milk.

Tramadol Side Effects

Tell your doctor if any of these symptoms are severe or do not go away: dizziness, headache, drowsiness, blurred vision, upset stomach, vomiting, and diarrhea. If you experience any of the following symptoms, call your doctor immediately: fast heartbeat, redness, swelling, and itching of the face, numbness or tingling of the hands and feet, difficulty breathing, changes in urination, seizures. Tramadol Overdose

Seek emergency medical attention. Symptoms of a Tramadol overdose include difficulty breathing; shallow, weak breathing, seizures, very slow/irregular heartbeat, loss of consciousness or heart attack.

Missed Dose

If you have skipped a dose of Tramadol, take it as soon as you remember. If the time for your next dose is closer, do not take the missed dose, but skip it and carry on with your normal dosing schedule. Never double up on a dose to catch up.

Storage

Store your Tramadol medication at room temperature (77F - 25C) away from direct light and moisture. Do not store in the bathroom. Keep yhis and all medications away from children and pets.
